The backs of dining room chairs should definitely be taller than the top of the dining table but how much taller is a matter of personal preference.  When dining chairs are lower in height, it feels more modern whereas taller chairs tend to make a room feel more traditional and formal. If you’re using different side and end chairs, your end chairs should be taller than your side chairs.

Designer, decoupage artist, and shop-owner John Derian embraced the intimacy of the small dining room in his New York shop by cladding the walls in a large scale cabbage rose wallpaper he designed based on a 19th century Currier & Ives painting. An eclectic mix of seating, including a slipcovered sofa piled with pillows and vintage side and arm chairs, further amps up the cozy feel. Derian set the table with his own tableware collection, which features floral images from old instructional texts.

Venetian plaster tinted a custom color designer Susan Zises Green calls “lettuce green” echoes a shade found in the 1920s hand-painted ceiling and infuses this historic Palm Beach home with fresh life. The armchairs, upholstered in a Christphoer Hyland fabric, and side chairs, covered in a Clarence House velvet, are antiques. The palm frond table linens are from D. Porthault.

I love fresh flowers, but I don’t love spending a fortune on them. Our Trader Joe’s sells seeded eucalyptus for $2.99 a bunch and hydrangeas for $5.99 a bunch. I think the roses were a little more expensive at $9.99, but you can see how many I was able to buy at that price! If you don’t have access to a Trader Joe’s near you, check out your local grocery store for floral options. They tend to have beautiful blooms for a fraction of the price of floral shops. Walmart is also a great option. The potted pink hyacinth in the background is from Walmart and was only $5!
Whether you're decking out your Manhattan loft or you're planning your first trip to The Big Apple, this lovely photographic print is a welcome addition to your home. This design showcases the sparkling NYC skyline alongside the Brooklyn Bridge, providing a panoramic view in gold, blue, and black hues for a subtle splash of color. Proudly made in the USA, this canvas is wrapped around a rectangular wooden frame before it arrives at your door, ready to hang with wall mounting hardware included.
