Today we’re tackling the age old delima… what do I do when I have one room that needs to serve two purposes? How do I go about decorating a combined room?! Technically this could be a living room and dining room, living room and home office, dining room and kitchen… but for this little scenario let’s focus on the whole living room/dining room situation. Why?

The homeowners wanted to have a fresh, bright dining room, so designer Ashley Whittaker helped them pick a showstopping lettuce green shade for the shiny lacquered walls and then kicked it up a notch with bright coral upholstered dining chairs. Painted lantern sconces and a sleek, four-arm, unlacquered brass chandelier play off the casual mood established by the sweet/tart color scheme.
This Locust Valley, New York, dining room by designer Meg Braff takes its color cues from a pair of antique chinoiserie panels that flank the entrance. A punchy table cloth by Lulu DK and the grass cloth wall covering by Meg Braff Designs provide relaxed contrast to the room’s more formal antiques, like the Regency chairs from Rumi Antiques and the Baltic crystal chandelier, and other décor, such as the apple green drapery and valance, both in a fabric from Holland & Sherry. A black lacquer credenza, by Jansen, grounds the pastel space with sophisticated polish.
Inspired by the lush landscape just outside the windows (which were salvaged from an old train depot!), the homeowner of this 105-year-old Victorian farmhouse filled the dining room with rustic wood elements and pops of green. The Beech wishbone chairs, which are lacquered in an apple green, pop against the large antique hutch that stores the homeowner's collection of copper Moscow mule mugs and green and white china. A pale pink Oriental rug with subtle hints of sky blue and chartreuse rounds out the mix.
Primary colors in this artwork include: Brown, plum, peach, dark gray. This proprietary canvas provides a classic and distinctive texture, while archival UV protectant inks make it scratch and fade resistant. The fabric base is flexible to support tight corners. The finished canvas print is mounted on a sturdy yet lightweight board to protect against warping, overstretching, or loose, sagging prints. It is then finished with a closed mat board backing and includes pre-installed, ready-to-hang...
If it’s all one big room and you want t to look like one large space then I would do alll the same curtains. However if you are trying to divide it into two different rooms then different curtains will help with that, divide the space even further with a different rug for each space. I love indoor/outdoor rugs for kitchens or dining rooms since they’re so easy to clean. Hope that helps!
